Things to Do Before Your Professional Packers Show Up Part 2

Things to Do Before Your Professional Packers Show Up – Part 2

Your move is coming closer, and it’s time to get everything packed. You’ve already started to ready your home for the professionals.

Earlier this month, we compiled some of our favorite ideas to help you prepare for your professional packing service. We want to make sure that you have crossed all your T’s and dotted all your I’s, so we have compiled a few more things you’ll want to think about before the big day.

Here’s a selection of more things that you can do before the packers pull up to your house. If you missed part one, you can find it here.

Call a Family Meeting

One of the biggest ways to make the process easier for your movers is to get your family out of the way. Boxes and appliances are heavy and can become safety hazards if there are a lot of noise and distractions.

Call a safety meeting and brief your family, especially children, on their roles during the packing process so that all members know what to expect when the packers arrive. If they don’t have anything to do, explain how they can best avoid being a hindrance to the Packers.

Prep Your Appliances

Sometimes, people like to take their appliances with them. Not just blenders and Keurig coffee machines; people like to take their refrigerators and dishwashers, too. If this describes you, you’ll want to prepare these appliances for the movers.
Start by unplugging any large appliances that you plan to pack. Remove everything, including trays and debris. Clean them if necessary. You don’t want to have to do that when you get to your new home!

Pre-pack Some Items

I know what you’re thinking: why do you have to pack anything when you’re hiring someone to do it?

The truth is, you can make things much easier by pre-packing some small items. There are some pieces that you may feel better about moving: items that have significant financial or sentimental value. The Packers may be professionals, but you know what’s best for your extensive collection of vinyl figurines or ceramic cats.

Walk around your home and evaluate what items might benefit from being pre-packed. Consider anything with lots of small parts. Your movers will thank you, and you’ll thank yourself.
