Garages and storage sheds are typically the most time-consuming spaces to pack, as they are filled with sharp or heavy items that require special care to pack correctly.

The first and most important step of garage packing involves disposing of items that cannot be shipped, like pesticides, fertilizers, oil and gas.
Next, group items of a similar size and shape together, such as long-handled tools with shears.
Invest in safe and sturdy packing materials to properly wrap or cushion items before you start packing.
Tools
Long-handled garden tools, brooms, and mops should be bundled together securely. Attachments should be removed from power tools and packed separately as to not damage your tools and their respective parts.
Leave hand tools in tool boxes and fill any remaining space with crushed paper.
Always be sure to use small cartons for heavy tools. Use old towels to wrap sharp-edge tools. Safely drain your power tools of oil and gas before moving day.
Rakes & Brooms
Bundle tools such as shovels, rakes and brooms in a pad. These items do not need to be packed.
Lawn & Patio Furniture
Be sure to remove cushions and clean the frames of your lawn and patio furniture. Pack cushions in a large carton or wardrobe.
Outdoor Equipment
As you prepare for your upcoming local or long distance move, be sure to dismantle any children’s swing sets, TV antennas, satellite dishes, or garden sheds you plan to bring with you to your new home.
Place small hardware in a plastic bag or old coffee can and label each accordingly. Don’t forget to prepare your lawn mower by safely draining gasoline prior to moving day.
Gardening Equipment
For small ceramic or pottery planters, individually wrap each item with plenty of cushioning for added protection during your move.
For the safety of your fragile items, re-pack items in boxes that are torn, falling apart, or cannot be properly sealed.
Trash Cans
If you plan on taking your trash cans to your new destination, clean them thoroughly before loading them into your moving truck.
If your trash cans are sealable or rollable, use them for storing extra items. Just make sure it’s not too heavy!
